Why pick and roll? Art of communication.

What are the benefits of playing pick and roll offense?  Why do we see quite frequently in professional and college games?  Why is it hard to defend?

I'm sure there are different answers but I believe the "Communication" is the biggest factor which makes P/R valuable.  It gives a situation of decision making on defense which requires group of players to communicate on how they defend.

Recent matches of Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs showed the advanced version of pick and roll situations and it is really fascinating to see the variations.   This is art of communication in sports.
