Let's stop boring stretches (Part II)

Let's use the basketball

When I attended one of my favorite strengh and conditioning class at the USA Basketball Coach Academy last year, I was blindsided by the idea that players could use a basketball to stretch as opposed to conventional static stretching methods.  As conditioning coach Mr. Alan Stein said, "Let's use a basketball."  Simple as that.

With the ball enhances mindfulness

Stretch with a basketball allows players to be mindful about muscles and their movement are associated with the sport they do.  The demonstrations with the high school players were effective in having them warm up and set goals of how stretches should be.  This is well thought and researched in my opinion.  Players also had fun preparing.

On-court Basketball Warm-up

-- Ball Reach
-- Walk The Ball
-- Ball Squat
-- Ball Sway
-- Ball March
-- Lateral Lunge With Forward Reach
-- Squat To Hip Raise
-- Twist and Reach

I would definitely recommend having them in your warm-up menu.
