As a player, I've made so many mistakes in the past in recovering from "a help position" to catching up with a man whom I should be responsible of.  This is called "over-helping" as described in the link below.
If the emphasis is so much on covering dribble drive, or defensive rebounds, closing out on a player will get delayed if you do not anticipate and react quickly.  Teams against good ball and player movement will exploit this "over-helping" with ease.
Anticipation and quick recovery is a must if you have to over-help on your defense.
